Vaccines, Frumento (Asl 2 Liguria): "mRna technology improves management and avoids waste"

"Improving communication for co-administration and protecting the vulnerable"

"We really need to learn the critical issues from the annual flu campaign, in the sense that in August we need to somehow understand how many doses of vaccine we need to avoid having any leftover doses in the fridge because the prevention departments deal with the health companies and we have to, at the end of the year, report the leftover doses. On the other hand, we do not have the possibility of increasing the demand in progress, because sometimes it can happen that the pharmaceutical companies no longer have the vaccine. Vaccination with an mRNA could actually overcome this major inconvenience". This was stated by Virna Frumento, director of Sc Hygiene and Public Health ASL 2 Liguria, speaking today at the event organized in Genoa on the theme 'The innovation of mRNA technology: from scientific potential to opportunities for regional healthcare'.

Thinking about fragile patients and their difficulty in accessing vaccination clinics, given that "they go to their general practitioner colleagues even just to prescribe their usual therapy", it would be important for them to have the proposal "of vaccination also to offer protection from multiple diseases - reflects Frumento - Co-administration, at times, is not accepted because we are not able to propose it adequately. Hence the importance of being truly good communicators and actually believing that what we are doing is the best thing to try to avoid hospitalizations, hospitalizations, but also just problems of lost days of work. These new types of mRNA vaccines can, in a single injection, offer protection from multiple types of infections: this too can improve adherence" to immunization.
